Speaker Biography

David Gittens

David Gittens is an Information Security Specialist who has spent the past several years working mainly in the financial services sector. During his twenty years working with information systems he has worked in almost every area of information and communications technology and has formal training and experience on almost every type of computer technology. Over the past several years he has successfully implemented various projects, dealing mainly with implementation of new systems, system upgrades, disaster recovery, and security products. Most of these were done in his capacity as an IT manager, security specialist, and an external consultant. In the past he held the post of Vice President Information Technology of a regional Financial Services company with branches in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean. In this capacity he had responsibility for all of the IT projects and technology solutions, IT infrastructure, IT policies and IT service delivery for the various territories. David is currently in charge of information security at a regional bank. His areas of responsibility include the security awareness programme, security log management, endpoint protection, vulnerability and patch management and compliance. He is also in charge of Disaster Recovery and sits on the Emergency Management team. Mr Gittens holds several information security professional designations from various international organizations, including CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), CRISC (Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control), CISM (Certified Information Security Manager), CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) and HISP (Holistic Information Security Professional). He sits on the boards of the HISPI (Holistic Information Security Practitioner Institute) and ISSA (Information Systems Security Association) Barbados and provides volunteer services for ISC2 (International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium). David holds a Bachelors degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Loughborough University of Technology in the United Kingdom.
